5 invaluable network management tools in ONE compact rack-mountable unit

At a glance

Secure Console Access, Anytime

Access, manage and maintain your remote networking devices via their serial console port, over your IP network, from

your central office location. In the event of a network failure, access is still possible via the RSM’s integrated secure

modem, ensuring you have complete control all of the time. Comprehensive security and authentication features on the

RSM prevents unauthorised access and ensures the Remote Site Manager integrates seamlessly into your existing

corporate security standards.

Remote Power Control/Reboot

Reboot locked up equipment instantly without the need for costly site visits. Optionally turn attached equipment on or

off at scheduled times, for example, when staff have gone home and at weekends, saving energy costs.

Automatic Transfer Switching

Integrated automatic transfer switching from your primary power supply to a back-up or secondary supply will provide your single-corded devices with full redundancy ensuring they are always up and running even if your primary power source fails. Transfer to the secondary power source is instant and seamless, not affecting the attached device’s performance in any way.

Temperature Monitoring

The RSM constantly monitors your remote rack temperature level with its integral sensor. If the temperature exceeds your

pre-defined thresholds, the RSM will notify you immediately ensuring you can take action before high temperatures force a shutdown of your IT systems. The RSM can, if necessary, turn on external fans or air-conditioning to help bring rack temperature back to normal levels.

Power Monitoring

Monitor power to all your branch office IT devices and produce live, weekly, monthly and annual trending graphs, without any additional software, giving you unprecedented insight into how much power your individual rack or branch office is consuming.

Product Information

Designed specifically for remote site locations with small IT installations where there is little or no dedicated on-site IT staff, the RSM will help you resolve networking issues quickly from a central office. Combine console access, remote power reboot, automatic transfer switching, temperature monitoring and power reporting and do away with the need to purchase separate products for each function.

Console Management provides secure and reliable remote access to all your IT equipment, alleviating the need for costly and time consuming engineering site visits. Access all your networking devices via their serial console port for re-configuring, rebooting, re-loading and upgrading firmware at a BIOS level. The GUI interface on the RSM means it is easy to configure and install, allowing quick and easy management of all your IT equipment from any location, at any time, minimising response times and travel costs.

Control power to all your IT, without having to make a site visit to remote locations. The RSM allows you to perform a remote power reboot of any locked up device, wherever it is located in the world. Return your network to operational status as soon as a problem is detected and maximise uptime.

Automatic Transfer Switching is a cost effective way to provide single-corded (single power supply) network devices with dual power redundancy. With the RSM, every single-corded device can now be connected to a redundant power supply at an affordable cost. Seamless power transfer from a primary source to a secondary source means that your equipment is never compromised in the event of a power failure.

High Availabilty of your serial console server is essential so you have access to all your equipment, even if routers or networks are down. Infrastructure failures are to blame for a large portion of unplanned downtime, and when the network fails, so do your networking management tools. Optional dual Ethernet ports on the RSM provide backup network access when your primary network fails.

Out-of-band management also provides direct, dial-up access to the console port of the affected IT asset when the network is down. In the case of remote office locations, this option is absolutely indispensable as it removes the need for an engineering call-out to site. By allowing quicker troubleshooting and a fast response, network downtime is shortened considerably. The RSM has its own integrated internal 56K V.92 modem with dial-back security as standard, ensuring you always have emergency access to your networking devices.

Troubleshoot remote network devices and keep network downtime to a minimum. Terminal servers have often been used as console servers but these only provide basic console access with no advanced features such as event monitoring, alarm notification and port buffering. Cisco access servers are still used as improvised console servers but they are not a strategic long term solution as IT infrastructure evolves. Unlike a terminal server, the RSM is specifically designed for console management and will allow quicker troubleshooting by capturing the critical moments preceding a server or networking crash. By buffering data at the individual serial port during non-connect periods, troubleshooting is made easy.

Monitor the power of all your attached equipment to better understand your power usage at each remote location. The RSM will measure amps, wattage, voltage and kilowatt-hours and log these measurements to its own non-volatile memory, alleviating the need for external storage. The RSM’s on-board Linux web server produces live, weekly, monthly and annual trending graphs and/or power reports so that you know exactly how much power each individual device, rack or data centre is consuming over time; comprehensive power monitoring without additional software costs.
